The global skills and competency framework for the digital world

Digital apprenticeships in England

The SFIA framework is based on experience in the work place. It can be used to provide a common reference point spanning apprenticeships schemes and continued employment.

An apprenticeship scheme allows people to be employed to do a real job while studying for a formal qualification, usually for one day a week either at a college or training centre. After a successful apprenticeship - the individual will have gained the skills and knowledge needed to either progress in your chosen career or onto the next apprenticeship level.

The SFIA framework is based on experience in the work place. It describes skills and levels of responsibility from entry level to the most senior professional and leadership level.

It is ideally placed to provide a common reference point spanning apprenticeships schemes and continued employment.

This initiative is under the SFIA 8 theme of employability.

The aim is to map SFIA to the digital apprenticeship standards used in England.

This should identify any gaps for SFIA to address (e.g. entry level skill descriptions) as well as providing an approach for other apprenticeship (or similar) schemes to adopt/adapt.
