September 2020 - SFIA 8 consultation update
A 2 minute update on the SFIA 8 consultation - and a reminder of how you can get involved.
Estimated reading time - 2 min, 4 sec.
Soft skills in SFIA...
- Last month I mentioned that Phil Lovell and Penny Coulter had developed an innovative way to showcase the behavioural factors in SFIA 7
- This material is now available for review
- Mapping SFIA levels of responsibilities to behavioural factors
Employability...
- SFIA is often used to describe educational outcomes
- This theme looks at the use of SFIA to help bridge the gap from education to the workplace
- We are engaging with a number of institutions to see if there are opportunities to continue to evolve SFIA and its eco-system
- Naturally the focus will be on the initial SFIA levels (typically 1,2 and 3)
- General feedback is that SFIA's generic attributes are as valuable as the professional skills in describing employability.
- Thanks to Luke Bryant, Catherine Teehan, Frazer McDonald and Frank Duffy for their input so far.
- SFIA is referenced in the Computing Curricula 2020 report (CC2020). We want to see if there are things we can do with SFIA to support this initiative and share the aims of CC2020 with a wider, industry audience.
Computing Curricula 2020 (CC2020) is a joint project launched by professional computing societies to examine the current curricular guidelines for academic degree programs in computing and provide a vision for the future of computing.
Service management skills and roles...
- The practice of service management continues to evolve and the aim of this theme is to review evolving practices e.g. those described in ITIL 4 and SIAM models
- We are doing some mapping between these frameworks and SFIA
- We can then identify opportunities to evolve SFIA to continue to support this important discipline
- Thanks to Trevor Jinks, David Wynack and Simon Roller for progressing this
T-shaped people and roles...
- This theme is set up to review how SFIA helps individuals and organisations to clarify and communicate what they mean by T-shaped
- Along the way we have uncovered an alphabet soup of role names. Read this to see why we think SFIA is well placed to support this way of looking at people and roles.
- Thanks to Barry Corless for progressing this
Business analysis skills and roles...
- Thanks to Debra Paul for adding a comprehensive change request relating to business analysis skills and roles
- If you can contribute please get in touch and/or add a comment to the change request
- Grant Nicholson facilitated a workshop on 24th September - we will share actions and outcomes soon
