June 2020 - SFIA 8 consultation update
A 2 minute update on the SFIA 8 consultation - and a reminder of how you can get involved.
Estimated reading time - 1 min, 48 sec
We’re continuing discovery…
- SFIA is a global framework, which means I get the pleasure of talking with people around the world and across industry disciplines.
- This month its been Chile, Costa Rica, Germany, New Zealand, Australia, UK, USA.
We have gone in depth for 2 themes this month...
- Information and cyber security.
- We now have a growing set of resources which show how SFIA supports security currently and where we should look to build on this for SFIA 8.
- Please take time to review, comment and contribute.
- Artificial intelligence/Machine learning (AI/ML)
- On the website we have shared how we will investigate this theme for SFIA 8.
- I have enjoyed curating a growing list of real-world AI/ML job postings from organisations deploying AI & ML (think Google, Netflix, IBM, Amazon). These help us get under the covers of the AI jobs people actually do.
We updated the website…
- This helps us better communicate the breadth of SFIA support for the industry.
- The SFIA views will be a key part of this through SFIA 8.
The University of Auckland are forward thinking SFIA users…
- They were already researching Artificial Intelligence skills and jobs. They got in touch and we can now share resources.
- They are also reviewing SFIA’s support for User Experience. I’m looking forward to seeing their proposals. I’m wondering whether we can combine this with the topic of service design which was raised by SFIA Council members.
- Thanks to Liane Taylor, Richard Elliott, Oliver Tipping, and their teams for leading on this.
We’ve started looking at…
- People management. This is a broad topic. Thanks to previous SFIA Council member Alison Gregory (now with PA Consulting) for offering to help.
- SFIA and T-shaped roles. We are going to define some T-shaped service management roles to experiment. Thanks to Barry Corless (ITSMF international/SFIA Council) for taking a lead on this.
- Agile. Thanks to Matt Philip for volunteering. Matt is based in the USA - he uses SFIA with other tools to support his work on competency building for Agile roles.
We want to include more people…
- If you would like to help or share your ideas with the SFIA Foundation - they should contact me

You can invite others to join in…
