The SFIA Council

The main functions of the Council are to

• provide a context of opinion and fact that enables the SFIA Board to remain closely in touch with the industry’s priorities, as they might affect the development and adoption of SFIA,
• recommend strategic actions to pursue the development and promotion of SFIA along lines that ensure its continuing relevance and usefulness,
• encourage the collection of detailed feedback, possibly through the establishment of a sub-group,
• provide a pool of potential members for the Design Authority Board that oversees updates of SFIA and for initiatives to update the supporting ecosystem.

Scope

The Council will express opinions and proposals concerning any aspect of SFIA and its marketplace, including

• content and structure of the framework,
• adoption by users,
• promotional activities,
• relationships between the Foundation and other parties, including accredited partners and accredited consultants.

Composition

The Council is to consist of no more than thirty people representing significant organisations in all regions worldwide where SFIA has significant interest, including

• Major users of SFIA,
• SFIA partners who provide training, consultancy, assessment or other services relating to skills management and specifically SFIA,
• Higher education,
• Industry or professional bodies with affiliation to SFIA or relationship with the SFIA Foundation,
• Members of the SFIA Foundation Board.

In addition, the chair/organiser of the User forum will normally sit on the SFIA Council.

Membership of the Council is by invitation of the Chairman, under the guidance of the Foundation Board and existing Council members.  

The members of the Council may decide that another organisation may be invited to attend for some particular purpose.

How it works

The Council holds meetings at frequencies determined by its members.  

Council meetings are held by means of a web-conferencing service, at times arranged to accommodate the range of time-zones of members around the world. Multiple meetings may be required to avoid antisocial hours for members.

Proceedings are minuted, to the extent of recording attendance, principal reports, new actions and progress on actions brought forward from the previous meeting.

The Foundation responds to those recommendations in time for consideration by the Council at the following Council meeting.  

Council members are representatives of their organisations and should make every effort to attend meetings, or to provide empowered deputies when unable to attend personally.  

The Council may request any person, representing any organisation, to attend and present on any topic it thinks relevant to its purpose.  

The Council may establish working parties or projects to examine any topic relevant to the Council’s purpose.  

A council member will prepare and distribute minutes of meetings.  

Council members meet their own attendance costs.
