SFIA 10 update

In previous months we have reported on the consultation workshops, input from the community  and the major themes for SFIA 10.

Things are progressing and we have now switched the status of SFIA 10 to 'in development'. This means you will be able to see the changes for SFIA 10 as they are being made. You can see some early examples below:

Note: you can see the actual proposed content changes in red/green text by toggling the 'Show revision-marked text' button.

AI and SFIA

Working with AI was the most prominent theme raised through the consultation. SFIA 9 already provides a comprehensive foundation for AI skills work and we have a full set of resources to help organisations and professionals use SFIA 9 as a framework for AI skills and also a interactive HTML view of SFIA 9 and AI and Machine learning.

New: Illustrative role archetypes for CWA 18398 AI Professional Role Profiles, mapped to SFIA

  • Last month we published a new interactive graphical tool providing indicative SFIA mappings for the CEN-CENELEC CWA 18398 AI Professional Role Profiles.
  • It illustrates levelled role archetypes for each of the AI professional role profiles, using SFIA skills and levels of responsibility - not fixed job descriptions.
  • As with all SFIA resources, these mappings are a starting point. Organisations should tailor them to their own operating model, AI maturity, sector, risk exposure and local responsibilities.
  • SFIA is a globally used, vendor-neutral framework that describes professional skills and levels of responsibility, rather than fixed job titles. Mapping the CWA 18398 role profiles to SFIA gives organisations a common language to compare AI roles against existing roles and skills, build career pathways for AI professionals, and adapt the profiles to their own structures without starting from scratch.

SFIA Week 2026

  • The SFIA Foundation is planning SFIA Week 2026, a global event running from 16 to 20 November, and we would love for the SFIA community to be part of it.
  • The week will bring together sessions on the framework itself, real-world implementation experience, and the wider SFIA ecosystem, building on the success of last year's Australia and New Zealand event.
  • Full programme details will follow, but if you are interested in presenting or would simply like to save the date, keep an eye on future updates. → Find out more about SFIA Week 2026
  • Some of the most valuable sessions each year come from people who use SFIA day to day rather than those who sell services around it: practitioners, HR and workforce planning teams, employers who have built a skills framework, and individuals who have used SFIA in their own career development. If that's you, we need your input.
