#1591 Consider whether quantum computing skills should be included change request resolved

A suggestion was raised that quantum computing is becoming sufficiently established as a professional practice area to warrant SFIA coverage in SFIA 10.

This consideration needs to be tested whether quantum computing skills can be expected to remain stable as professional practice.

Is there a case for new content, for enhanced guidance on existing skills (such as RSCH, HPCC, EMRG), or for deferring to a later release?

Current status of this request: resolved

What we decided

In current work - quantum computing currently sits within existing SFIA skills. Particularly high-performance computing and formal research,  rather than standing apart as a distinct professional discipline.

We’re not ruling out dedicated coverage in a future release, but the practice area needs more time to stabilise before a new skill would hold up over the long term.

What we changed

Amended the high-performance computing guidance to name quantum computing explicitly as an example domain, and improved search terms so quantum-related roles are easier to find within SFIA.
