SFIA 10 Consultation Workshops - what we heard
Between 28th and 29th April 2026, we held three online consultation workshops as part of the SFIA 10 development process - covering the Asia-Pacific, Americas and EMEA regions. We had previously run a dedicated session during SFIA Week (November 2025). We were delighted by the level of engagement.
We collected over 150 ideas, suggestions and questions. Participants came from a wide range of backgrounds - employers, practitioners, technical specialists, consultants, and academics - and from more than 40 countries.
We are grateful to everyone who took the time to contribute. Every idea has been captured and will be considered as part of the SFIA 10 development process.
The themes we heard
The contributions covered a wide range of topics. The most prominent themes were:
- AI capability - the single largest theme, with contributors raising questions about how SFIA should address AI: whether as a standalone skill category, embedded within existing skills, reflected in behaviours and attributes, or some combination. This is one of the most significant design questions for SFIA 10.
- Existing skill coverage - targeted suggestions for specific skills and professional domains including cybersecurity, business analysis, relationship management, data skills, and learning and development, among others.
- Regulatory and legislative practice - a consistent signal across multiple workshops that the skills required to navigate, interpret and apply legislation and regulation deserve greater coverage in the framework.
- Framework structure and usability - suggestions on level coverage, skill boundaries, terminology, and how SFIA is navigated and consumed, including cross-references to other frameworks.
- Behaviours and attributes - interest in building on the success of SFIA9 by refreshing and extending SFIA's generic attributes and consider any changes needed to reflect the use of AI in the workplace
- Sector and domain extension - proposals for SFIA to further extend its coverage for areas including ESG, manufacturing and operational technology, digital healthcare and clinical settings.
- Assessments - how SFIA supports performance-based assessment, and how skills operate within real working environments
This is not an exhaustive list. All contributions are being analysed and will inform the Design Authority's decisions on the scope and direction of SFIA 10.
What happens next
- The consultation ideas will be reviewed.
- We will assess the themes and discuss how best to respond. As with all SFIA development, the range of possible responses includes changes to the framework itself, enhanced guidance, improved presentation and navigation, and in some cases, confirming that existing coverage is already adequate.
- We will publish a more detailed explanations of the consultation themes and the Design Authority's directions as the SFIA 10 development process progresses. We are committed to being transparent about what we heard and how it is shaping SFIA 10 - so we will share our plans and reasons why.
This is not your last chance to influence SFIA 10 - you can contact the SFIA Foundation directly with your thoughts and suggestions. Workshops are one part of how we gather input. Change requests from individuals and organisations remain open throughout the SFIA 10 development cycle.

Stay involved
SFIA 10 is planned for release in Q4 2027. There will be further opportunities to contribute to its development - including Design Authority consultations, beta reviews, and additional community sessions - between now and then.

Thank you again to everyone who participated. Your contributions are genuinely shaping the future of SFIA.
