SFIA updates and distributes the Digital Skills Framework through a licensing system, which provides the framework free of charge for personal professional development and most forms of internal use in employee management, and other forms of use may require a different type of license that may incur a small fee.
The following uses are prohibited unless a special license is obtained, for which the Foundation charges:
- Use SFIA to support sales or marketing of products or services
- Using SFIA in External Certifications or Credentials
- use SFIA to promote a company or organization, including on price tags, and redistribute such materials in electronic or printed form to any other organization (even if affiliated);
- The use of SFIA in a large, widespread organization or organization
- Translate SFIA into another language or a different language and distribute the translated version
A separate license is available for widespread use of SFIA, and this is particularly attractive when a country wishes to use the SFIA Common Global Reference Model as a basis for its large-scale capacity and skills building initiatives:
- Valid license in the entire public sector
- Valid license in the whole country
As a non-profit organization, SFIA does not seek business gains beyond its operational needs, as all revenue received is used to develop, modernize, and make SFIA available and support the adoption of institutions, organizations and individuals around the world through the global ecosystem. Since our license terms reflect the actual value of our intellectual property, we seek to protect it by charging very small fees from those who benefit commercially from its use, the organization does not generate significant revenue and has a very modest operational capacity based on the support of users, trainers, consultants and partners around the world.
SFIA is governed by reputable professional institutions or bodies, and all information can be obtained from SFIA's website www.sfia-online.org
